Netflix Releases First Look at ‘The Crown’s’ Princess Diana, Margaret Thatcher

Netflix has released the first looks at two of the most anticipated historical figures portrayed in season four of The Crown: Princess Diana and Margaret Thatcher.

The streamer released a handful of photos from the upcoming fourth season of the British royal drama on Tuesday morning, including looks at Emma Corrin as Diana and Gillian Anderson as Thatcher.

Corrin’s Diana is shown being photographed on a street while Anderson’s Thatcher, who became the U.K.’s first female Prime Minister in 1979, is shown waving outside of 10 Downing Street.

…The fourth season of the royal drama, which is set to take place during the 1980s after filming wrapped at the start of the coronavirus pandemic, is set to hit Netflix on Nov. 15.

The fifth season will be filmed next year and not air until 2022, a similar pause to the one taken between the second and third seasons of the series, with seasons five and six set to take the story into the 2000s.

The cast of the British royal family drama will change again between the show’s fourth and fifth seasons, with Imelda Staunton set to assume the role of Queen Elizabeth, Lesley Manville playing Princess Margaret and Jonathan Pryce taking over the role of Prince Philip. Additionally, Elizabeth Debicki will take over the role of Princess Diana in seasons five and six.

Creator Peter Morgan recently revealed that he’d returned to his original plan to have the series run for six seasons instead of an abbreviated five-season run, which he had said at the time was the “perfect time and place to stop.” But, Morgan clarified, “season six will not bring us any closer to present day — it will simply enable us to cover the same period in greater detail.”

Gillian Anderson and Asa Butterfield are back in first ‘Sex Education’ season 2 photos

Ready to head back to school?

The first photos from season 2 of Netflix’s comedy Sex Education are here — and, of course, Gillian Anderson’s Jean is looking as impeccable as always. Season 1 of the series saw socially-awkward high schooler Otis (Asa Butterfield) contend with puberty, crushes, and a sex therapist (and slightly intrusive) mother (Anderson), while also endeavoring to advise his fellow students on all things sex with the help of new friend Maeve (Emma Mackey).

When the show returns for its second season, Otis finds himself having to master his own newly-discovered sexual urges while he tries to make things work with his girlfriend Ola (Patricia Allison) and maintain an even relationship with Maeve (Mackey). Elsewhere, Otis’ bestie Eric (Ncuti Gatwa) notices his recent burst of self-confidence is attracting unfamiliar kinds of attention and things get complicated for Jean when her relationship with hot handyman Jakob (Mikael Persbrandt) is discovered and they have to figure out how to make things work with their kids (Otis and Ola) also dating.

First look: See Gillian Anderson and Asa Butterfield as mother and son in Sex Education

Entertaintment Weekly has the first look at Gillian’s upcoming TV series, Sex Education, as well as character descriptions — be sure to check the full article out! The show shall be premiering on both Netflix (US) & Netflix (UK) on January 11, 2019. The relevant character description is posted below & I’ve added the first still to the gallery, enjoy!

Netflix describes the eight-episode series as a “modern portrayal of sexual and romantic experiences, friendships, and contemporary young-adult life.” Set in the fictional English town of Moordale, the series follows 16-year-old Otis, a thoughtful but gawky high school student who is surrounded by manuals, videos, and outrageously frank conversations about sex in his home life thanks to his mother’s profession. When Otis’ home life is exposed at school, he decides to use his inside knowledge to help gain popularity, setting up an underground sex therapy clinic at school alongside bad-girl Maeve (Emma Mackey). Along the way, Otis realizes he might just be in need of some therapy himself.

Written by Laurie Nunn and shot in Wales, the series also features Ncuti Gatwa, Kedar Williams-Stirling, Aimee-Lou Wood and Connor Swindells.

Jean Milburn (Gillian Anderson): “Jean Milburn is funny, observant, and always larger than life. She is fiercely independent and has no filter when it comes to interrogating people about their personal lives, which makes her a brilliant sex therapist. She lives at home with her only son, Otis. She and her ex-husband, Remi, another sex therapist, have little to do with each other unless it involves Otis’ welfare. Early on, she made a decision to never shield Otis from anything and to always speak to him like an adult. As Otis has got older and more sexually repressed, she worries that some of these parenting decisions may have backfired.”
